The Quarry is a reader-funded news project focused on life in Guernsey.
By singing up to our email you get briefings delivered to your inbox, or follow our WhatsApp channel, whatever is most convenient, and can then decide to dive into more detail if they want. We produce our content so you can listen and watch it too - the motto is news where and how you want it!
But you can go further, get access to more great exclusive material and support our project by paying a monthly fee.
What do I get?
By signing up you're getting access to frequent updates on the goings-on in Guernsey and if you are a paid supporter, in-depth investigations and the chance to help shape the agenda and our island’s future at our monthly coffee shop forums.

What kind of content?
Some common story archetypes: How’s business at so-and-so? What’s the deal with [island curiosity]? What’s the plan for solving [island challenge]? What's [interesting person]’s story? Did you know about [piece of island history]? We will also produce exclusive content because we have created time and space to be able to investigate issues fully and move away from the daily churn.
Do you use AI?
Yes. Government and agencies frequently communicate by sending in press releases and by using AI and automation, we can process these quickly and create different formats to get the information across in an engaging way. But no story is published without being checked by a human several times. AI also is helping us analyse data, spot trends, even help with ideas which can be tough as a small, independent newsroom.
We’ve embraced this to allow us to concentrate on getting out into the community and spending time with people, rather than time simply always regurgitating what the States is saying!
Who’s writing this and why?
Hi, I’m ....
Sadly all local journalism is struggling for funding and to adapt their business models to survive and that impacts the work that they do. This project is all about breathing fresh life into an industry that is so important to how cohesive our communities are.
How did you land on the price?
Basically, it's the lowest that gives the project a chance to succeed. It's in line with other news providers of our kind (run by a dedicated professional). It’s substantially cheaper than buying a Sunday newspaper every week - and our main local rivals.
I'd really like full access but I can't afford it right now.
E-mail us. No explanation required.
I want to go further to back this project
We've also set up a package for a yearly payment that would be incredibly important for us. It not only means you helping make this project sustainable, but in return you also get exclusive insights into how the businesses is doing, why we are covering the stories we are and to get behind the scenes of the decision making process.
